Our Story
Brookshire Music Studio (BMS) is here to serve Katy, Brookshire, and surrounding areas. BMS has a professionally qualified teaching staff, a family-friendly studio environment, and successful student musicians. Each teacher has a passion for music and strives to help students achieve their musical goals by tailoring their curriculum to meet each students’ unique needs.
It’s never too early or too late to learn how to play a musical instrument! BMS teaches private lessons to students from children to adults.

Meet the Teachers
Cristina Brady (Owner)
Piano
Cristina is a native Houstonian who has been playing the piano for over 28 years. She started her teaching career at age 18 and has continued teaching for 18 years. Cristina teaches a variety of genres from classical, rock, jazz, blues, pop and more. She ensures her students learn how to sight-read and incorporates music theory such as chords and scales into her lessons. She also likes her students to be involved in choosing their pieces for motivation and to make their lessons fun. Some of the methods that she incorporates into her curriculum are Wunderkeys, Faber, Bastien, and the Alfred library. Cristina is also the developer of the preschool music class curriculum (Mini Beethoven’s Music Group). She has a passion for music and watching her students blossom into full-fledged musicians.
Cristina is available In-person on Monday-Thursday evenings, Monday & Wednesday mornings, & Virtually.
Tim Riley
Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Drums, Piano, Music Theory
Tim is a professional guitar player/teacher and music theory teacher. He has been playing guitar since his childhood – professionally for over three decades. Tim spent the better part of his life in a variety of bands and recording situations playing everything from classical music to blues, jazz to heavy metal, and everything in between. Tim also can build and repair guitars and learned a great deal about the electronics within them, as well as the workings of both the analog and digital equipment associated with guitar playing. Around the turn of the century, Tim discovered his love for teaching and a new career was born! A lifetime of various experiences with this instrument, along with an easy-going approach to both life and teaching have helped him become a more effective educator and tutor in every aspect of both guitar playing and the instrument itself. Tim has also been a regular private tutor to many music theory students over the years, with several students going on to become music majors and even music teachers themselves at both the high school and college level “…a point of personal pride, I must say!” – Tim.

Jonathan Pan
Violin and Viola
Jonathan is from Katy, Texas, and he has been playing the violin since the age of 6. His teaching style includes aspects of the Suzuki method, and students of his have been accepted into All-Region orchestras at the junior high and high school levels. He is happy to help students succeed and is willing to cater to all levels and backgrounds. While in grade school, he made numerous achievements, including being accepted into regional and state level orchestras. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance from the University of Houston’s Moore’s School of Music.

Rachel Jones
Piano
Rachel started playing the piano when she was just 5 years old! She has been teaching piano lessons for 20 years and has experience as an accompanist for many choirs, ballets, churches, and schools in Illinois where she lived for the past 15 years. Rachel and her family recently moved to Katy, Texas. She is enjoying living in Katy and is excited to be a part of the Brookshire Music Studio family.
Rachel is available Monday-Thursday evenings & Saturday mornings!
Cale Brandenburg
Euphonium, Trombone, (Alto/Tenor/Bass), Tuba, Trumpet, Cornet, French Horn, Piano
Cale is a husband and father of 3. He’s been playing Euphonium since he was 10 years old, started picking up other instruments in 7th grade, and is now a multi-instrumentalist with proficient experience several instruments, leading him to be 1st Chair and his school’s first TMEA All-State Euphonium. Mr. B teaches Euphonium, Trombone (Alto/Tenor/Bass), Tuba, Trumpet, Cornet, French Horn, and Beginner Piano. His teaching style for beginners consists of the writings from the Rhythm Books and Alfreds Piano books. For the more proficient players, he uses the Arban book as well as various books from Voxman. His lessons are a combination of music theory and fun! He teaches any range of Brass and has a consistent background of students making TMEA Regionals or higher as well as Orchestra. Mr. B has experience in music theory at Sam Houston University. He has a very deep and passionate love for music and is driven to not just be a better musician, but to make the world around him a little brighter using music.

Isabelle Spencer
Violin
Isabelle was born and raised in Houston and has been playing violin for over 10 years. Growing up she always had a strong affinity towards music and picking up different dialects and languages. She started her musical career through the Suzuki pedagogy and as she continued to advance, she switched to more classical training. Isabelle has experience in playing in Chamber Music, having her own music programs in nursing homes, and has experience in doing beginner violin group classes! Just as she was taught, her teaching style will include parts of the Suzuki method and Classical Violin training. Not only will her lessons be efficient and effective, but your children will also leave the studio with a newfound respect and love for music and their instrument! “I share the same sentiments as Doctor Suzuki ‘Music is the language of the heart without words.'” -Isabelle Spencer

Ann Alexander
Piano and Voice
Ann has been in Houston since 1971. She earned her undergraduate music degree and later a further degree in Music Therapy. Over the years, Ann has taught piano and voice lessons, sung solos in major choral works, conducted several choirs, and even had fun doing piano bars in Houston and Canyon Road in Santa Fe. Ann’s methods for piano lessons include the Faber method books to begin, which contain different levels of study for students, including music theory, technique and artistry, scales, lessons and performance books. An important focus is in being taught to practice smart, so their progress will bring achievement. Music Assignments also include classical, musical theatre, and disney and pop songs. In voice, the first accomplishment is to learn to hear your own unique voice, and from that fun and patient process the voice starts to emerge. “I still remember sitting on our front porch with my grandmother Anna, who taught me new songs at a very young age; and then later piano lessons began and i was totally immersed and wonderfully in love with music; and teaching music became my profession and a major source of joy”

Braedon Wright
Piano, Drums, and Bass
Braedon is a multi-instrumentalist and producer from rural Southeast Texas and now based in Houston. Braedon has been a musician since he started playing drums at 11 years old. He started performing at age 12 and was a 4-time top 10 High School State Jazz drummer in Texas. Braedon learned Bass, Guitar and Piano throughout his high school years and spends most of his time producing music and performing for artists across the country. His teaching style is focused on ear training and theory knowledge. We are so happy to have Braedon at BMS!

Darius Barnes
Voice
Darius Barnes is a new voice instructor to Brookshire Music Studio. His passion for singing, started at an early age and auditioned to become a tenor finalist for the Stellar Music Awards Youth choir in Houston, Tx 2006. As a finalist, he traveled to perform before many known artists in the Gospel music industry in Nashville, Tn. After graduating high school, he attended Tyler Junior College before transferring to Prairie View A&M University where he obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music in 2014 with a concentration in voice. While attending Prairie View A&M, he was under the choral direction of Dr. Jan Taylor. My vocal training was taught by Mr. Leon Turner baritone. My teachings in music theory, Music Lit and sight reading were by composer Dr. John Cornelius. Through my hard work in music as an undergrad, he was given opportunity by Dr. Cornelius to become a staff singer at Kingwood First Presbyterian under music choir director Dr. Todd Miller. After graduating in 2014 from Prairie View A&M, he started releasing original songs written and some produced as a gospel recording artist from 2014-2020. Along with performing, he did features for local artists in the Houston area on their albums. Currently, he has a song available on YouTube he wrote the chorus and produced on for a Houston artist called Old Ways by Mr ad the problem solver. With his extensive experience as a vocal performer, his lessons for his students will focus on vocal concentration, posture, ear training, vowel pronunciation, diction, breath support, stage presence, vocal range and register, exercise/warmups, and singing repertoire.

Rick Valadez
Drums
Rick’s career spans nearly 3 decades of professional, full-time touring. His last and longest running project, Rat Ranch, played over 5000 live shows! Rat Ranch has shared the stage with such artists as Joe Walsh (The Eagles), Little River Band, Warrant, Dishwalla, and members of No Doubt. Along with extensive live performances, Rick has also been a part of dozens of recorded songs and studio projects. Rat Ranch released four original CD’s throughout their career. Rick has also played and recorded with notable Texas and Nashville artists Dana Cooper and Shake Russell. This extensive experience with live and studio performance helps Rick to bring a unique teaching perspective to new and old students alike. He is looking forward to sharing his passion for drums and all music with his students.

Terry Maldonado
Guitar, Bass, and Ukulele
Ms. Terry has been a guitar instructor for many years in the Cinco Ranch area! She has been a member of the Songwriters Guild, BMI and the Houston Songwriters Association for many years. She is an accomplished singer, songwriter and musician and has won awards for her songwriting and other music collaborations. Terry has also contributed both instrumentally and vocally in the recording studio for several artist both locally and abroad. Her talent began naturally at a very young age and has continued since. She immediately discovered that she had a natural ability to play several instruments because of her ability to play by ear, although guitar did become her main instruments of choice. She did learn music theory privately through individual lessons. She thoroughly enjoys teaching and believes that establishing a good foundation is key to developing good artistry on any instrument a student is interested in learning. Ms. Terry wants everyone to know that beginning a musical instrument has no age barrier. When you are ready is the right time to get started!

Mark Harrison
Piano, Guitar, and Drums
Mark is a native Houstonian who discovered his love for music at an early age. He has 16 years experience as a drummer, 14 years experience as a pianist, and 7 years experience as a guitarist. Mark has a degree in Music Composition from UTSA. He is an expert in Finale and Logic Pro and writes music for solo piano, guitar, strings, wind instruments and more. Mark is passionate about classical music and has a deep understanding of rock, jazz, funk, reggae, blues, hard rock, metal, and electronic genres. Mark is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others and is excited to be joining the BMS staff!

Nicole Sveinsson
Piano and Acoustic Guitar
Nicole has extensive experience teaching piano and classical guitar to all ages and levels and is passionate about sharing her love of music through teaching. She hopes to inspire her students to love and appreciate music and her goal is to help every student gain valuable musical experience and to explore their own enthusiasm for music. Nicole is thrilled to be joining Brookshire Music Studio.

Eric Ching
Piano and Drums
Eric Ching is a jazz drummer and composer currently residing in Houston, TX. He grew up in the SF Bay Area where he studied with Akira Tana (Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt) and spent much of his time driving up to the city to go to jam sessions. Then, he went to New York University for Music Education where he studied under Ron McClure (Joe Henderson, Wynton Kelly), Sean Statser (NYU Percussion), and briefly with Kenny Washington (renowned jazz drummer).
Some of the people he has played with are Robbie Laws (award winning blues guitarist), George Colligan (Jack Dejohnette, Buster Williams, Lenny White), Anna Crumley (Grammy winning vocalist), Reggie Houston (Fats Domino Band), Ben Rice (award winning blues guitarist), Jennifer Keith (jazz vocalist and Las Vegas headliner), Charlie Porter (Grammy winning trumpet player), Bob Stark (Grammy winning engineer), Eric Reed (Wynton Marsalis, Ron Carter), Josh Nelson (Natalie Cole, film/tv), Greg Goebel (renowned jazz pianist), and many more! He plays music with a tremendous amount of purpose and is infinitely creative in the way he manages color and shape. With his compositions, he aims to explore new territory while channeling the spirits of McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, and Kenny Garrett. His pieces all have a searching quality where he isn’t quite sure what he’s looking for, but he’ll know when he’s found it. He yearns for the unexpected and his songs gradually unfold like a Tarantino movie.

Mike Barrows
Piano and Guitar
Mike Barrows earned a bachelors of Music in Guitar Performance from the University of St. Thomas in Houston. He has had a passion for music his entire life which began at the age of 6, in the form of piano lessons from his mother, a Master Organist. Mike began playing the guitar in 9th grade and started taking lessons formally at age 17. His first teacher introduced him to jazz, blues, and music theory and this has been his true passion ever since.
Mike has played in and been the leader of blues bands, classic rock cover bands, jazz bands and duos and has performed solo as well taking freelance gigs such as weddings and funerals throughout the past 20 years. He has also played in worship bands at various churches in Houston and is currently the guitarist in the worship band at Crossroad church in Katy, TX. Mike has been teaching privately for 17 years including over 6 years at Guitar Center in Katy from 2014-2020, and five years at Rise Warehouse in spring Branch from 2021-2025. He has a passion for teaching guitar and has taught thousands of lessons to hundreds of students of all skill levels from beginner through advanced and all ages from 5 years old to adults. He also teaches beginner piano lessons to children and adults.

Ryan Malone
Piano, Guitar, Bass, Beginner Ukulele and Mandolin
Ryan is a classically trained guitarist, pianist, and bassist with over two decades of experience in live performance with various groups such as zydeco ensembles, rock bands, and classical duets. He began studying piano at the age of five and became an avid guitar player at the age of twelve. Growing up in the heart of Louisiana, Ryan was influenced by the zydeco, blues, and jazz music which were part of local culture. During high school Ryan joined the gifted music program and the jazz band which solidified his love of playing and performing. In addition to performing at the Festival International De Louisiane, Ryan was also able to explore and expand on these influences through the Zydeco Ensemble he participated in during college.
Ryan has a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration on media from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette which allowed him to explore sound design, music theory, film scoring, and synthesis. His principal instructors were Dr. Jeffrey L. George for classical guitar, with Dr. Jonathan Kulp and Dr. Garth Alper as heads of the classical and jazz theory programs, respectively. Ryan’s favorite genres of music include rock, alternative hip hop, folk, jazz, and everything in between! Ryan’s love of music and learning has led him to become a teacher with future aspirations of becoming a music therapist. His primary teaching philosophy is meeting students wherever they are at and using their preferred learning style to meet needs and achieve goals. Ryan wants to instill his love of music, performing, and learning in all of his students!
Ryan is available Monday – Friday afternoon and evenings & Virtually!
Lessons and Pricing
BMS offers 30, 45, and 60 minute private lessons, weekly.
Private lessons are available for ages 5 and up.
Pricing is per month, whether the month is a 3, 4, or 5 week month.
Pricing is for in-person or virtual lessons.
Registration: $30 (one-time fee per family)
Trial lessons: $32.50 (applied towards current month’s tuition)
30 minute lesson: $130 / month
45 minute lesson: $190 / month
60 minute lesson: $250 / month ($10 discount)
Sibling Discount: $10 off family tuition total
